The Piney-Lenape are the descendants of the Native Lenape
people of the New Jersey Pinelands commonly known as the
Pine Barrens. Of New Jersey's historically-documented
Native American populations,we are the ones native to
Burlington County. It should be noted, howevere,
Sand Hill group has historic ties to Burlington County and
both the Piney-Lenape and the Sand Hill Indians have ties
to the former Brotherton Indian Reservation, also in
Burlington County.
Lately alot of political influence both positive and
negative,
has been pressed apon the State concerning us. This influence
is from the tribes and native organizations in and outside
of New Jersey. Some of this influence is from non-native
organizations in and outside of New Jersey.
We feel it is imperative for the rights and history of the
native Lenape of the New Jersey Pinelands to be
protected and preserved, as well as the New Jersey
Pinelands wildlife and land resources.
